The Need for Speed
Industrial angle grinders operate at incredible speeds—often over 13,000 RPM. The centrifugal forces threatening to pull the wheel apart are immense.
Enter Fiberglass
To prevent catastrophic bursting, wheels are manufactured with layers of woven fiberglass mesh embedded in the phenolic resin.
- Single Reinforced: Used for chop saws where the wheel is constrained and not subjected to side loads.
- Double Reinforced: Used for portable angle grinders where the operator might accidentally twist the wheel in the cut.
- Triple/Quadruple Reinforced: Used for extreme applications like rail sleeper cutting or heavy foundry snagging.
Never use a non-reinforced wheel on a portable hand-held machine.
