The Challenge of Pressure Vessels
Manufacturing pressure vessels, boilers, and heavy pipes requires perfect, defect-free welds. To achieve this, fabricators often use a technique called "back gouging"—grinding out the root pass of a weld from the inside before welding the second side.
The Farros Blatter Wheel
Standard grinding wheels are too wide or aggressively shaped for precise back gouging. Farros Blatter wheels are specialty Type 41 wheels engineered with specific face profiles (A, S, and F) to grind precise U-grooves and V-grooves for weld joint fit-up.
Iron-Free Formulations
Because many pressure vessels are made from stainless steel or specialized alloys, Apidor manufactures these Farros Blatter wheels in strict iron-free formulations to prevent catastrophic corrosion in the field.
